In an sea of excellent wedding blogs, Style Me Pretty remains the standard of genius wedding inspiration and we are always thrilled to be included in such a caliber of amazing vendors. Today, they featured Sari & Holly's super 8 film and we're so happy to be able to share this lovely film with their readers.
Thank you so much to all of our friends and supporters for voting us into the winning spot for Bride Pop's best NY Wedding Videographer. It's a complete honor!!!
For the last week, I've had the privilege of working in some of the coolest spots on the West Coast. It all started last weekend up in the gorgeous town of Healdsburg, in Sonoma county, capturing the fantastic wedding of Kate and Ross. I was truly inspired that day. From the perfect summer weather, to the fantastic views of wine country, to the exquisite details at the wedding to the super fun couple (not to mention their rowdy friends and family), it was the perfect day!
I was then hired to shoot a promo film on super 8 for an up and coming company who specializes in the cultivation of young artists in Los Angeles. It was SO MUCH FUN driving all over LA finding shots that epitomize "youthful, artistic, LA." I cannot wait to get the footage back for that!
And today we're heading up to Santa Barbara for a wedding that I've been anxiously awaiting. The setting is spectacular and the couple, well... let's just say they have some unique and exciting ideas planned for their big day. I feel like the luckiest girl in the world!
One of my fave blogs, 100 Layer Cake did a feature on Sari and Holly's wedding images from the very talented team Weddings By Two. It was so fun to shoot with Ben in Cape Cod and he got some stunning images. Especially the antique Tin Type shots from his large format camera. Amazing couple, amazing day!
We were ecstatic about being included in the wonderful feature published by Emily on her lovely blog, Once Wed. When we worked along side Robert Sukrachand in June, I just knew he was taking killer photos. Robert (aka Bobby) also shoots with real film, so I was naturally excited to see the results. Well, his work did not disappoint... the images he took that day were utterly gorgeous!
We're so honored to be considered one of the best in the area. Please head to the site and show your love for real film & our films by voting for Hello Super 8!
The very cool POSH Event for female filmmakers asked for an interview about me and Hello Super 8. I'm a fan of supporting women business owners and especially filmmakers, so this was a welcome opportunity. I'm super bummed to miss out on the amazing-sounding retreat in November but alas, I'll be busy shooting a wedding!
Old-fashioned home movies, the kind on actual reels that sometimes turn up, unlabeled, in attics, are actually valuable sources of evidence about the way people lived in a certain time. As the BBC reports, the British Film Institute (BFI) and the BBC have teamed up to archive the historical tidbits that can be found in the background of old family films. They have requested family films, which will be used in the Home Movies Roadshow series.
In the article, "Would you rescue home movies from a burning house?", Robin Baker (head curator at the BFI) comments on the value of film and how home cinematographers only captured the key moments so as not to be wasteful, saying of video, "Now you can shoot all the time and the result can be rather long and boring. But with film they kept shots short because of the cost. The result is much more engaging and varied."
It's definitely true that shooting on film forces the filmmaker to be careful and economical; your eye always has to be out for the best moment to record permanently on film, and sometimes patience is a virtue. Instead of coming back from a wedding or event with hours and hours of video footage to wade through, searching for those special moments, we have already found them.
Take a look at how Hello Super 8 does old-school, invaluable family films.
Nita (hailing from Indonesia) & Rehan (an Indian Londoner) had a brilliant multi-cultural affair at the gorgeous Wave Hill, located in the Bronx, NY. The setting was fantastic and the weather turned out to be perfect. They were married in the picturesque gardens at sunset and the raucous reception followed in the grand Armor Hall.
We so impressed with the attention to all the fun design accents. Nita is a designer herself, so she spent a lot of time crafting the cute programs, menus, fans, table numbers, place settings... just about everything you could think of! There was so much love put into every little detail. We adored everything about this wedding... especially their fun guests' creativity for their message booth!

The Notebook, one sweeping romance of a film, gets reenacted by one couple at their engagement shoot (the bride-to-be looks so much like Rachel McAdams!).
Once again, our Hello Message Booths have been deemed one of the best guestbook alternatives for creative brides. Offbeat Bride includes our message booths among instrument guestbooks and "guestballs" as a fun way to get messages from your party's guests. We couldn't agree more, especially with our latest and greatest message booth, courtesy of amazingly fun couple Nita & Rehan and their very enthusiastic friends!
The super 8 wedding film of Sari & Holly's Provincetown wedding is complete, and we are beyond thrilled with the results. Check out the highlights in this clip, or watch the full version.
We JUST got the footage back from Chase & Tate's destination wedding in Aspen, CO (or technically, Basalt... right outside of Aspen) and it's AH-MAZING!!! SO very excited to edit this one.
With all due respect to those who film solely with digital video cameras, we thought we'd put together a short clip that showcases footage--both film and video--from one of our recent weddings. Watching the footage side-by-side reminds us why we love film so much: the rich, vibrant colors; the nostalgic feeling; and that magical super 8 quality that makes everyone look absolutely gorgeous! The warm look and feel of real film simply can't be matched by video--take a look at what we shot in each format:
